Chapter 7 Reflection
What types of requirements are used with young learners in your country? do children have to take a standardized test in elementary school? when do children start participating in formalized assessments in math and reading in their native language?
Answer
In teaching young learners when I was in elementary school, the types of assessments used are behaviorism assessment and academic assessment like knowledge, student pro-active, and skill to apply the learning itself. and for standardized tests, most schools in Indonesia still use this strategy but during curriculum changes development to the independent curriculum (Merdeka Belajar) perhaps some activator schools (Sekolah Penggerak) already implemented abandoned this strategy. the children start participating in formalized assessments in math and reading in their native language in grade 1 of elementary school for math and reading in the Indonesian language.
Question 3
Do you remember the first time you had to take a standardized test? how did you feel? what did your parents and teacher do to make you feel at ease?
What can teachers do to prepare children for standardized testing so that they feel comfortable?
Answer
Yes, I remember, I was in the first grade that time in elementary school participating in a standardized test and I feel so excited that time that because I nearly know all the answers, it was so easy at that time. What makes me easy to answer the questions is that I remember a lot about the material because my teacher makes school so fun and interesting with some pictures as the figure.
My teacher prepared the grid of what should we learn for the test. it's very helpful.
